7rainbowprompts Lelouch Lamperouge looks at her as she walks down the steps. Her long orange hair sways back and forth; her laughter fills the air. She is happy, so happy. His heart breaks into two when she reaches his spot under the large tree.
Her green eyes meet his.
His heartbeats quicken. Perhaps the Geass isn’t all-powerful. Maybe she could break its spell... She could remember... His eyes stare back.
She waves at him. “Vice-President,” she calls out gaily. “Good morning.”
“Good morning,” he replies politely. And he looks away when he realizes that she is already walking away with a merry tune. They are friends but not friends, classmates but not acquaintances, victim and savior...
His fists clenches around his book. It’s for her good, he says firmly. I only did it to save her the misery.
Lelouch looks away into the morning sunshine. He hasn’t forgotten the rainy afternoon she kissed him, the brilliant sunset with gunfire and blood and the starry night of rewritten memories. Shirley Fennette is once again the happy and carefree girl that she is. There are no traces of blood, gore and grief. She is happier without him.
As she lives with new memories, their past is erased. Their future is eradicated. What he feels for her is locked away. Her love is set aside or thrown away. It is for the best, he repeats to himself.
Lelouch looks up again when he feels someone watching him.
She gives him that sly smile and sidelong look. Lelouch smiles back. No matter how many times he tries, he couldn’t avoid their fate.
